BCCI is proposing five teams, two stadiums, and twenty league matches for the first Women’s Indian Premier League

According to news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering expanding the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) to include five teams and allowing a maximum of five international players in each playing XI. The most likely time frame will be in March 2023, which would be after the Twenty20 (T20) World Cup for Women but prior to the beginning of the Indian Premier League for men.
It is currently contemplated that a maximum of four of the foreign players in the XI may be from countries that are ICC (International Cricket Council) Full Members, while the fifth and final spot can go to a player from an Associated Member. Each team will have the opportunity to put together a roster of up to 18 players, which could consist of a maximum of six players from another country.
The panel is also considering two different ways to sell the Indian Premier League teams: the first is to sell them zone-wise, with teams located in the North (Dharamsala/Jammu), South (Kochi/Vizag), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), West (Pune/Rajkot), North East (Guwahati), as well as Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur)and the second is to sell them city-wise (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, – with matches managed to hold at IPL Stadiums). The chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the office bearers of the BCCI will make a final judgement about the request for stadiums.
In the manner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), teams might face each other two times during the league phase, with the leading team in the standings automatically entering the final. An Elimination match will be played between the teams who finished second and third, respectively.
In contrast to the Indian Premier League, however, organisers are contemplating using a caravan-style schedule for the event, which would include playing a few matches at one location prior to moving the competition to a new location altogether. This is how IPL 2021 was conducted until it was forced to be moved to the United Arab Emirates due to mounting worries around covid.
The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) will be within about two locations every season due to the fact that it will only be considering 20 league matches. Therefore, the first season of the 2023 season might be started playing at two of the previously stated stadiums, the second season of the 2024 season might be played at the additional two stadiums, and the third season of the 2025 season could be played at the residual stadium in addition to one of the stadiums from the 2023 season.
The IPL regulatory council has delegated authority to the IPL chairman and BCCI office officials to make a conclusive judgement about the schedule of the tournament.
